Top-Ranked Australian Man, Alex de Minaur, Will Miss Olympics Due to Positive Covid-19 Test

Alex de Minaur has been forced out of the Tokyo Olympics due to a positive Covid-19 test. The top-ranked Aussie, ranked 17, has always been game when it comes to playing for the green and gold, but he’ll have to wait until the 2024 games in Paris to play his first Olympic tennis.

“We’re really disappointed for Alex,” said Ian Chesterman, vice-president of the Australian Olympic Committee. “He said that he’s shattered, not being able to come – it’s been a dream since he was a child to represent Australia at the Olympic Games.”

De Minaur’s absence from the Olympics means that 11 players currently ranked in the ATP’s Top-25 will not play in Tokyo. Six WTA players ranked inside the Top-25 will not play.
